3M Company, a world leader in adhesive technologies, has recently launched 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-9356 B/A FST, a fast-curing two-part epoxy adhesive delivering high strength and uncompromising FST performance, suitable for aircraft interior applications.
“With thousands of new aircraft expected to be produced in the next decade and an anticipated surge in demand for interior retrofits, interior components will need to be produced at high rates,” explains Anna Geary, 3M Global New Product Introduction Manager for Aerospace Adhesives. “We are excited to introduce 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-9356 B/A FST, the latest addition to our well-established range of structural adhesives and void fillers for aircraft interiors. This new adhesive enables our customers to maximize productivity, reduce overall production costs, all without compromising performance.”
Fast curing
Designed to be fast curing with low exothermicity, EC-9356 B/A FST cures to handling strength within just 2 hours and reaches full cure within 24 hours. Its fast flow and 20-minute work-life make it ideal for insert bonding, ditch and pot, cut and fold, and mortise and tenon joints.
High strength
Reaching a maximum tensile lap shear strength of 26.2 MPa and a floating roller peel strength of 105N / 25 mm (23 PIW), EC-9356 B/A FST is suitable for the fabrication of a range of load-bearing structures across the cabin including stowage bins, lavatories, galleys, and seat structures.
Meets the latest FST Standards & EH&S requirements worldwide
Designed for use in aircraft cabin interiors, EC-9356 B/A FST meets the latest flammability, smoke density, and toxic gas emission requirements as listed in FAR/JAR25.853 and ABD0031. Available globally, EC-9356 B/A FST has been formulated without halogens and antimony to meet REACH and other key EH&S regulations worldwide to help prevent supply challenges for customers.
Easy to use
Easy to mix and apply, EC-9356 B/A FST has a convenient 2:1 mix ratio and is available Duo-Pak cartridges and bulk options. It’s thixotropic, non-sag consistency is ideal for vertical applications. In its uncured state, it can even hold light brackets without supporting fixation.
EC-9356 B/A FST is currently undergoing qualification at a number of OEMs.
